Engineering disciplines are vital to building new capabilities needed by the scientific community. The Masters of Engineering (MEng) program is run through the Cornell College of Engineering for students interested in earning a hands-on graduate degree in engineering. Within walking distance to Cornell campus, the benefit of providing students in MEng programs with professional design project experiences at CHESS is enormous. Year-long projects provide ample time for students to design, build, test, and commission substantial new equipment or operational projects. Students work closely with engineering and science teams throughout the year, participating in periodic review presentations and then writing a final report. MEng projects at CHESS range from x-ray optics design and installation to the design and fabrication of in-situ sample cells for real-time multi probe studies of thin film deposition and annealing, incorporating students from all engineering fields including mechanical, chemical, and material science MEng students.
