CHESS Support Rooms

CHESS Control Room

CHESS Users are required to sign in with the CHESS Operator
and receive a radiation badge.

CHESS Machine Shop

A CNC surface grinder/crystal cutter, vertical mills, lathes, drill press, bandsaw, layout tools, and hand tools along with safety glasses and face shields are available in the CHESS Machine Shop.
Machine Shop Safety must be followed.

Computer Laboratory

PC's and Macs are available for our visitors.

Chemical Room with hood

A chemical handling room with a chemical hood and a variety
of chemical handling equipment is located near the CHESS west area.
Users who need gas supplies for experimental purposes should
contact Dave Jones well in advance of visiting CHESS.

Dark Room and Cold Room Facilities

The darkroom is well-equipped for wet film processing
with cooled developer and fixer tanks and a film drying cabinet.

There is a coldroom for mounting and temporary storage of
temperature sensitive samples.

Biological Facilities

The F1 experimental station in CHESS East contains a
Baker Model NCB-B6 Biological Safety Cabinet for handling
approved biological hazards in a safe and confined area.

Vacuum Facilities

A portable turbo-pump station (5x10-8torr), portable roughing
pumps and leak checkers are available for Users.
Users with other vacuum needs should contact CHESS.

Electronics Shop

An Electronics Shop with Oscilloscopes etc.
is available to the users at all times.

Stockrooms

A fully-equipped mechanical and electrical stockroom
are in a central location to both the CHESS West and East areas.
A supply of liquid nitrogen is available at all times.
