CHESS
Station Hardware and Electronics
Stations are equipped with
motor-controlled optical tables that are used to mount and orient the
experimental apparatus. A description of the table orientation is discussed
in the following section on "Software data collection and experimental
control." The figure below shows the standard Klinger rail, mounted on the
optical table, upon which all CHESS components can be placed into the center
of the x-ray beam. Standard motorized X-Z stages, fixed or motorized slits,
ion chambers, flight tubes, jack stands, and other various components are
routinely available for mounting onto the Klinger rail.

F3 electronics rack
Available electronics include Multi-Channel Analyzers
(MCA): two Tracor-Northern 1705s , a Tracor-Northern 1710, a Canberra series
30 and series 35 plus, and two Nuclear Data networked MCAs are available. We
also have an inventory of NIM compatible amplifiers, single-channel
analyzers, Keithley 427 and Ithaco 1211 current amplifiers, pulse
generators, function generators, fan-outs, discriminators, voltage to
frequency converters, D/A converters, ratemeters, counters, timers, stepping
motor controllers, and high voltage power supplies.
Video cameras and monitors are also available for observing remotely
controlled equipment and coupling to image intensifiers and video recorders.
A Polaroid camera for photographing oscilloscope or CRT screens is also
available.
Electronic test equipment for trouble shooting equipment includes a
Tektronics 2215 (60MHz) and 475 (100MHz) oscilloscopes, a Wavetek 4 MHz
Pulse/Function Generator, Hewlett-Packard DC power supplies, and a variety
of multimeters.
