Facility Access Information

CHESS is located on the 1st and 2nd floors of Wilson Synchrotron Lab at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.

Once you have arrived at CHESS, proceed directly to the CHESS Operator Desk on the first floor for check-in.  Users may obtain visitor parking permits at check-in, valid 24 hrs/day for the "W" Lot (Southeast side of Wilson Lab).

Check in Map

At check-in you will be assigned a radiation badge. Do not enter any CHESS experimental areas, even to unload and store your equipment, until you have been assigned a radiation badge. New Users, or those with more than 2 years lapse since one's last visit, must attend a safety orientation tour. Orientation tour times are available at check-in.

CHESS building hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday, but a CHESS Operator is on-site 24 hours while experiments are being run.

There is a keypad for after-hours building access located on the left side of the 1st floor door at the bottom of the loading ramp. The keypad code will be provided in the User Information packet you receive at check-in.  The packet also includes computer passwords, personnel contacts, and other important information you will need during your visit.

At the completion of your run, Users are required to return to the Operator Desk for check-out. The Operator on duty will sign in your radiation badge and parking permit, and will collect your User Feedback Form.
