What is a Light Source?

General Safety

Use caution and common sense when working on the experimental floor at CHESS, particularly in cramped walkways and hutches. Questions regarding safety at CHESS can be directed to the CHESS Safety Committee.

Be aware of the following:

  • Trip hazards such as electrical cords and bulky equipment.

  • Objects stored on overhead racks or cabinets that could fall and cause injury.

  • Cranes, forklifts, pushcarts, or ladders in operation.

Whenever you are on the experimental floor, be sure to note:

  • The location of the nearest exits, fire extinguishers, and eyewash/shower stations.

  • The area status boards.

  • Special notices, ie: lockout/tagout tags, restricted areas, hazardous materials boards.
