Chapter Three - Safety Committee

Method of Operation

The CHESS Safety Committee will meet every two weeks to discuss proposals and other safety matters.

A safety committee vice-chairman will be appointed.  At minimum, the CHESS safety committee chairman (Dana Richter), the safety committee vice-chairman (Ken Finkelstein), and the cognizant safety officer will approve safety committee decisions that do not go through the full committee.  If the chairman or vice-chairman are not available, another member of the safety committee can be designated to fill in.

A log book of Safety Committee actions will be maintained to record any and all procedural steps related to alterations of the CHESS Safety system.  Entries in this book will only be made by members of the CHESS staff.  The book will record actions taken in alterations in any of the beam lines, or beam transport systems, that are outside of the CESR chain.  Entries in the standard log books for each line or piece of equipment will be made irrespective of safety log entries.  It will be possible for example, to make a log entry into a beam line book which refers to a more complete description in the CHESS Safety book.
