Chapter Nine - Chemical
Safety
Bio-Hazard materials in use:
The range of biohazards and the conditions for
their use is very broad. In general, recommendations for the
use of biohazard materials may be found in the CDC publication,
Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories.
Specific questions may be directed to the Cornell University
Biosafety Officer, Andy Garcia-Rivera, at 607-255-8200.
General requirements are as follows:
- Signage on lab doors and equipment as to the nature and level
of the biohazards in use.
- Adequate personal protective equipment.
- Availability of containment devices, such as biosafety
cabinets.
- Means of disinfection in the event of spills or other
contamination of surfaces with biohazardous agents.
