Safety
MSDS: Material Safety Data Sheets and Chemical SOP's
MSDS's,
Chemical SOP's and a copy of the
Cornell
University Chemical Hygiene Plan are kept on file located on the
CHESS Chemical Room door or online.
MSDS's are available online from several sources, including large
MSDS databases like Vermon-Siri,
or from the manufacturer when you ordered the product, or the
manufacturer's website.
MSDS's must contain the following:

The chemical's name or names (including trade
names)

Name, address, and phone of the manufacturer

List of the chemical's ingredients

Permissible Exposure Limits (PEL) or Threshold
Limit Value (TLV)

What conditions or other substances will cause
the chemical to catch fire, explode, melt, or turn into dangerous
gases
-
How to put out a fire involving the chemical
-
What to do if the chemical spills or leaks
-
How to prevent dangerous exposure
-
Health hazards such as skin irritant or
cancer-causing
-
Symptoms of over exposure
-
What to do if you are over exposed
-
The date that the MSDS was prepared
