If you see a fire, pull an area
fire alarm immediately and notify the CHESS Operator immediately if
you can do so safely.
Proceed to the nearest building exit unless you have fire warden
responsibilities.
DO NOT USE ELEVATORS
If the fire is small and can be contained by a fire extinguisher, and IF
you are trained to use a fire extinguisher, pull the fire alarm and then
use a fire extinguisher to douse the flame. Be sure you are using the
correct type of extinguisher:
• Type A extinguishers are for wood and paper.
• Type B extinguishers are for flammable liquids.
• Type C extinguishers are for electrical equipment.
• Type D extinguishers are for burning metals.
• Some extinguishers are multi-use rated.
Guidelines to prevent the outbreak of a fire in the CHESS facility:
• Know the flammability of the materials you are using and take
appropriate precautions.
• There is no smoking inside the CHESS facility or any campus
building.
• Do not use frayed electrical cords and do not overload circuits.
• Do not attempt to use a fire extinguisher unless you are trained
to operate one.
