Sealed Sources:
CHESS owns several sealed radioactive sources. A "sealed" source has been placed in a permanent casing which prohibits direct contact with the radioactive source. These sources are kept in a safe and must be signed in and out when used. Use of radioactive sources must be approved by the CHESS Radioactive Source Custodian.
Use gloves even when handling sealed sources, and keep in mind the principles of time, distance, and shielding.
The CHESS Radioactive Source Custodian maintains the sealed sources and checks them periodically for condition. If you believe that a sealed source is damaged or leaking, alert the Radioactive Source Custodian immediately.
