STEP ONE: UNDERSTANDING BEAMLINE CAPABILITIES

Look at the Beamline capabilities webpage.

  1. Contact a Staff Scientist to discuss your research (the CHESS User Office will also get you in touch with the appropriate Staff Scientist):
  2. What is the research problem?
  3. Which station(s) are appropriate?
  4. How mature is the research project (risk, size)? Has this been tried on a home source?
  5. What is the material - sample composition, form, size, availability?
  6. What are the experimental conditions (temperature, pressure, etc.)?
  7. What will be measured?
  8. Probability of success? Impact? Significance?
  9. How will results be presented and to whom?
  10. What is the timeline?
