Understanding mechanisms of elemental movement is critical to developing new strategies for human sustainability in the face of dwindling resources and a changing global climate. Urgent responses are needed to address collective challenges, including sustainable extraction and reuse of critical metals; global food safety, security, and nutritional quality; and minimizing human impacts on the environment.
