Here are step-by-step instructions for configuring a remote desktop connection with NoMachine NX client version 4.0 or higher for data collection at MacCHESS.
(using Linux as an example)
Install the software. Download the appropriate package for your Linux distribution and install it. e.g. "dnf install nomachine_5.3.12_10_x86_64.rpm"
(Wade through introductory windows)
Style: Sunshine (arbitrary) (version 5 only)
Authentication: Use the NoMachine login (since our server is version 3.5)
Key: (leave unchecked; blank) (default)
HTTP Proxy: Don't use a proxy (default)
Name: landline (arbitrary) - Done
Double-click [landline SSH] button
Password: (get this from MacCHESS)
Double-click "Physical display..."
You can resize the window. Make it as big as possible! You can scroll up-down and left-right to cover the desktop.
CTRL-ALT-0 for nxplayer menu. "Display > Fit to window" recommended.
By default, installation of the NoMachine software sets up a remote desktop server as well as a client. Probably you will want to pick through the configuration and turn this "feature" off.
