Scientific Scope
The Forming and Shaping Technology Beamline (FAST) focuses on Time-resolved studies of manufacturing processes and performance of structural materials.
Beamline Description
The FAST beamline offers advanced X-ray techniques, including near- and far-field high-energy diffraction microscopy, μ-computed tomography, area detector-based powder diffraction, and high-speed diffraction (kHz-MHz). Sample environments support a range of mechanical tests, from uniaxial tension and compression to high-cycle fatigue and thermomechanical experiments up to 800°C. Emerging capabilities include laser powder fusion additive manufacturing and tensile-torsion loading. Various high-resolution detectors are available—contact beamline staff for details on specific setups.
