Grades 9-12: Students explore the law of conservation of energy by observing energy conversions as they occur within a light bulb.
PHYSICAL SCIENCES (Grades 9-12)
One of the most fundamental principles of physics is the law of conservation of energy. Regardless of its form, energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can, however, be converted from one form to another. In this lab, electrical energy is converted to light and internal energy (heat), and light is converted into heat. This experiment will examine the specific energy conversions mentioned above.
