"Optical Stochastic Cooling in the IOTA ring at Fermilab"
Abstract: A proof-of-principle demonstration of the Optical Stochastic Cooling (OSC) with 100 MeV electrons in the Integrable Optics Test Accelerator (IOTA) is being pursued at Fermilab. In OSC radiation generated in a pickup undulator is imaged in a downstream kicker undulator. A magnetic chicane between undulators determines a phase between particle motion and light in the kicker providing a corrective longitudinal kick. The experiment will take place in two phases (i) a passive test which relies only on lenses to image the pickup radiation in the kicker and (ii) an active test which includes a 7 dB amplifier based on Cr:ZnSe gain medium. In preparation of the experiment simulations using Synchrotron Radiation Workshop (SRW) were performed and found in good agreement with existing semi-analytic theory.
