The Cornell Laboratory for Accelerator-based ScienceS and Education (CLASSE) is a world-class facility studying beam and accelerators, photon science, particle physics and the early universe, serving students, the public and scientists from Cornell and around the world.
Responsibilities: In collaboration with the Executive Director and Associate Directors of Administration, provide pre- and post-award support for CLASSE. Serve as primary contact for pre-award management. Provide direct and indirect support in all areas related to proposal submissions. Work directly with principal investigators in the development of Memorandums of Understanding (MOU), Statements of Work (SOW), and grant/contract and cooperative agreement proposals; monitor and ensure compliance with respective guidelines. Review grant/contract/cooperative agreement/MOU/SOW language for accuracy and completeness. Oversee timely preparation and accuracy of various related reports; ensure compliance with government and university reporting. Investigate and resolve related financial problems. Assist Project Managers with analysis of various project management reports and developing financial projections and strategies.
Qualifications and Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree with more than three and less than five years of experience with pre- and post-award management or equivalent. Excellent communication (written & oral), interpersonal, leadership, analytical, and organizational skills. Ability to take initiative, resolve conflict, and work in a collaborative manner. Demonstrated proficiency with a variety of software to include word processing, database management, and spreadsheets and the ability to analyze and manipulate data, which leads to management decisions. Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines, handling sensitive, confidential material with discretion and tact. Must be able to function both as a contributing team member and independently, performing duties with minimal direction. Ability to perform multiple tasks under pressure, problem solve, and prioritize on a regular basis with a strong attention to detail. Will be required to handle unusual or difficult situations with compassion, sensitivity and professionalism while exercising sound judgment. Must be committed to continuous learning. Capable of adapting to the changing needs of a fast-paced research environment. Able to receive directions and to communicate effectively across all research groups in the department. Work effectively and cooperatively within a team environment.
Preferred qualifications and skills: Master’s degree with Cornell leadership experience preferred. Knowledge of Cornell policies and procedures, experience with Cornell grants & contracts processes, Cornell on-line systems, Excel, and Word preferred. Aptitude and willingness to learn additional operating systems and software packages.
