
CLASSE encompasses a broad and highly complex variety of scientific initiatives and infrastructure (~$1B capital equipment), funding sources (~$50M annual expenditures), scientific user program (~1,200 annual visitors), staff/academics (~240), and graduate students, undergraduate summer students/employees (~75). Twenty-five faculty are supported by CLASSE.
As Executive Director of CLASSE, Katie is responsible for the entire laboratory encompassing three centers and numerous research programs at CLASSE. Katie works with the CLASSE Director to deliver strategic development, shape direction and implementation affecting all business operations including, but not limited to: Finance, Budget, Planning, HR, Information Technology, Communications and Marketing, Safety, and Facilities.
Katie partners with the principal investigators of CLASSE (19 active PIs) to provide leadership of sponsored research administration (71 active awards), direct resolution of grant and contract issues and promote related compliance. As Executive Director of CLASSE, Katie oversees the preparation of grant and contract proposals (~35 submissions annually).
Katie is responsible for CLASSE’s human resources functions serving faculty, academic and non-academic staff, and students. Provides direction for HR strategies and implements organizational development initiatives to support growth of the lab.
As Executive Director, Katie is responsible for the planning and operational support for CLASSE facilities including developing and overseeing long-range facilities plans. Facilities which include Wilson Synchrotron Laboratory, Newman Laboratory, and the Physical Sciences Building, in addition to the various storage and technical facilities of CLASSE. Katie Develops and oversees capital planning of these facilities, while prioritizing space needs, and directing design and financial management of renovations, construction, remodeling, and repairs for these facilities.
