Even as CHESS’s Outreach and Education team refocuses its K12 efforts to concentrate on higher education, we haven’t abandoned the relationships we’ve built through a shared vision for equitable access to science in our community.

The view from the third floor of the new Geosciences, Physics and Engineering and Physical Sciences Hall at Fort Lewis College is an impressive one -- the San Juan Mountains rise prominently to the north while the desert Southwest edges up to the base of the range, the confluence of which marks the boundaries of the small city of Durango, CO. 

As part of the new lending library for middle school program, the Xraise outreach team set out to test one of its latest developments, a design lesson plan in which students learn about electricity and magnetism through the designing of their own loudspeaker made from cups, coils and magnets.

The girl scouts, who were working on earning their Radio and Wireless Technology patches, spent their Saturday at Wilson Lab building their radios under the guidance and tutelage of the Cornell students.
