MSN-C receives renewal of funding for second year
The Materials Solutions Network at CHESS (MSN-C) has received a renewal of funding from the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) for its second year of operation.

PREM Student Highlight: Diego Soto
With summer programs moved online due to COVID-19 - the PREM (Partnerships for Research and Education in Materials) students from Puerto Rico, who would normally be visiting CHESS this summer, are instead attending online lectures and interacting with other students through Zoom. This program is supported by the NSF-PREM CiE2M – the Center for Interfacial Electrochemistry of Energy Materials – a partnership of The University of Puerto Rico, Rio PiedrasCampus (UPRRP), Universidad Metropolitana (UMET) and Universidad del Turabo (UT), and CHESS.

In-Situ Studies of Rock Deformation Workshop brings in over 100 participants
"The workshop at CHESS brought together over 130 researchers from industry, national laboratories, and academia to learn more about high-energy X-ray imaging and diffraction capabilities for studying rock deformation."

2020 PREM X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy and EXAFS Workshop
"Due to the travel restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire workshop was conducted virtually using Zoom. Over three days, the workshop consisted of both didactic lectures and hands-on tutorials."

CHESS to restart in June for COVID-19 research
After almost two months, the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source will partially restart operations in June to conduct research related to treatment of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

Crystallization-Driven Self-Assembly of Coil−Comb-Shaped Polypeptoid Block Copolymers
"Polymers that can self-assembly into a variety of nanostructures in solution are useful in many biomedical applications such as drug delivery."

RNA's magic begins with base-specific ion interactions
"These results fundamentally explain structural and functional differences between DNA and RNA that support their divergent biological roles."

Back in the Lab - John Conrad
Each Wednesday, a member of the CHESS technical staff visits the lab to do critical maintenance and inspections on the research equipment. Last week, John Conrad took some video of his excursion. Take a look behind the scenes during the stay-at-home order!
