The program’s name SRCCS, stands for Summer Research for Community College Students. Thanks to several volunteer mentors, we have exciting projects especially designed for SRCCS participants posted on our website: https://www.classe.cornell.edu/StudentOpportunities/SrccsProgram.html.
These projects range across the span of CLASSE (Cornell Laboratory for Accelerator-Based Sciences and Education) research. Examples include the development of a bonding technique to fabricating high resolution and large solid angle X-ray analyzers, testing of high efficiency superconducting radiofrequency cavities for particle acceleration, 3d modeling of telescope designs for observational cosmology, and programing a thermal protection system for CHESS’s high power X-ray optics.
"I cannot detail the impact the SRCCS program had on me, but the research in the lab with my mentors, the presentations, the outreach, and some get-togethers with other students (REU, SUNRiSE, SRCCS) and CHESS staff really made me a better person, especially developing my skills and vision for my professional career."
- Oluwasina Okunoye, 2016 SRCCS participant.
This year, CHESS is expanding our invitation to community college students beyond upstate New York to include students from New York City. Besides being involved in research, our SRCCS participants will have the opportunity to enjoy sports and social events during the program’s duration from June 12th - August 4th 2017; a great time for them to experience a beautiful Ithaca summer.
